POWER Staff are committed to their professional growth! They are eager participants in their professional learning, and strive every day to grow their skills as educators. The following items reveal the depth and breadth of the continuous learning cycle for our outstanding POWER Staff!
SPARK PE
Student well-being is essential to their success at school. The SPARK physical education program is the vehicle that POWER uses to drive kids toward living their best lives! Staff are trained prior to the start of each school year so that they can deliver high-quality, effective, and fun lessons to our children. SPARK allows staff and students to problem-solve together, build community through play, and truly connect emotionally with each other in a safe, supportive environment. PE is for everyBODY!
EDUCARE
Supporting the social emotional growth & development of our children is central to POWER's mission. The EduCare program supports our staff in teaching explicit, meaningful SEL content. It helps us to give our students the tools they need related to the 5 core competencies of SEL: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, & responsible decision-making. POWER staff excel in making meaningful connections with our students!
POWER 101
To start each school year, all POWER comes together to review expectations, create new learning, complete various district mandates, and strengthen our community. POWER 101 provides us with a unique opportunity to bring our entire staff together to support each other as we embark on each new school year. The training also includes First aid/CPR training for staff. When POWER 101 concludes each year, all of our staff are well-prepared to teach our children, connect with them, and keep them safe.
REGIONAL MEETINGS
POWER is a member of CA Expanded Learning Region 8. The region is comprised of Kern, Ventura, San Luis Obispo, & Santa Barbara counties. There are 3 regional meetings that POWER leadership attends each year to learn from programs outside of our area. We also share the amazing work that we are doing with our colleagues. POWER staff who attend these regional meetings return with a greater vision for our program, more ready to lead, and always have useful resources to share. DUSD POWER has received recognition at these meetings for our outstanding expanded learning program! One such recognition is reflected in the video above - the Albany Park Dance Team was invited to perform for after school leaders from 4 counties! Great stuff!
CONFERENCES
POWER staff are hungry to grow professionally, and our district supports that through sponsoring attendance at many different conferences over the years. Our POWER Site Managers have also presented at a state level! Those conferences include: EDGE UP regional conference, Statewide Site Coordinators Symposium, Best Out Of School Time (BOOST) statewide conference, and various other learning & leadership opportunities. Our POWER staff is committed to becoming the best professionals they can be, in order to provide outstanding service to our students!
